At times, one might wonder if the "Western Civilization" is in decline. Not necessarily morally or ethically, (I'd argue for the opposite), but in terms of productivity and individualism.
We're all very busy thinking about ourselves, and not so focused on what is best for the greater good, whether that would be one's home-town, nation or whatever.
China on the other hand, seems much more focused on the development of their nation. They seem very nationalistic. Nationalism is a tender word in Europe, we nearly destroyed ourselves in two "world wars" because of national pride.
So, in Europe, everyone is thinking about ethics and moral. Should we ban religious headwear? How is personal data going to be protected in the digital age? How do we solve the climate issues? Should we accept more refugees from war-zones? Is it right that Iran develops nuclear weapons, since we have them?
Meanwhile, China just produces and develops. There is of course art and political disagreements, but it's not the centre of things. China is slowly preparing to take over the role as the centre of the world.
But is that so wrong? All cultures before us has fallen at some point. If our culture declines as a political power because we struggle for a social Utopia, isn't that just the best way to go into the inevitable?
